Virgilijus Šonta:
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
Virgilijus Šonta: Atsakymas, mano drauge, plaikstosi vėjyje
National Gallery of Art
May 27, 2026 - June 21, 2026
Conceived around the notions of concealment and freedom, the exhibition architecture combines a field of dark, freestanding volumes with a series of suspended swings dispersed throughout the space. While the architectural structures frame the exhibition’s thematic chapters, the swings create moments of pause, contemplation, and non-directed movement, offering visitors a sense of ease amidst narratives marked by repression, secrecy, and vulnerability. A monochromatic black palette was chosen to foreground the delicate tonal range of Šonta’s photographic prints, allowing the works themselves to function as the exhibition’s primary points of light. The resulting environment privileges the photographs while immersing visitors in a spatial atmosphere of searching, reflection, and quiet discovery.
